In April of 1851, 30 Farmington residents signed a petition and sent it to the Connecticut State Legislature calling for the creation of a local bank. The newly formed Farmington Savings Bank was granted a charter by the State of Connecticut on August 12, 1851. FSB opened for business on August 25, 1851 in the home of Deacon Simeon Hart, the bank's first Secretary / Treasurer, at 93 Main Street, Farmington.
Banking Hours were 8:00 am to Noon and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in order to accommodate working families and farmers. Deposits that first day totaled $88.70. By the end of 1851, the bank held $3,338.31 in 103 accounts.
Two years later, after the death of Simeon Hart, the bank moved down the street to 27 Main Street and the home of Samuel Smith Cowles, the bank's second Treasurer.
In 1865 the bank moved across the street to its first permanent home, an old store building located at 32 Main Street. The building underwent an expansion in 1890 and was razed in 1927 with our present Main Office building constructed directly behind the original bank. We've been on Main Street, Farmington for over 150 years now.
Today, FSB is a billion dollar institution with twelve offices throughout the Farmington River Valley and Central Connecticut. FSB is a mutual savings bank regulated by the State of Connecticut and the FDIC.
Through all of the changes that have occurred in a century and a half, one thing remains constant: Our dedication and commitment to the people and the communities we serve. For over 150 years, FSB has been a successful local business thanks to our customers. Throughout our history we've had a mutually beneficial relationship with the communities we serve.
In May of 1998, Farmington Savings Bank founded the FSB Foundation, Inc. to provide a permanent way of providing contributions, grants and scholarships to eligible organizations and individuals. To date, the Foundation has donated over 2 million dollars to benefit local worthy causes.
